The symbol for Aries represents the horns of a ram or a sheaf of wheat describing the new growth of spring in the northern hemisphere. (Aries marks the spring equinox in the north and the autumn equinox in the southern hemisphere.)

The purpose of Aries is self-survival, the promotion of self and the survival of the fittest.

The positive qualities of Aries can be described as: assertive, bold, direct, dynamic, quick, courageous, competitive, decisive, passionate, strong, physical, fearless, child-like, responsive, “in the now”.

The negative qualities of Aries can be described as: insensitive, aggressive, impatient, reckless, blunt, demanding, argumentative, impulsive, thoughtless, selfish, self-righteous, angry, pushy, bombastic, physical.

Aries needs to constantly succeed on a daily basis. They need to have a purpose in life where they can exercise their initiative and sense of enterprise. They need to be able to fight battles, to slay dragons and preferably along the way rescue a damsel in distress! Aries needs action, excitement and danger. Without challenge and adventure Aries will become insecure, bored and frustrated and begin to display the less desirable qualities of their sign.

Pisces

 The symbol for Pisces represents two fish tied together by a cord and swimming in opposite directions. One fish describes the soul’s urge to dissolve with the Divine and the other the personality’s desire for identity.

The purpose of Pisces is to be aware of the inner life. It is where we touch the Divine. It is about connecting with Source.

The positive qualities of Pisces are: receptivity, sensitivity, fluidity, spirituality, compassion, devotion, intuition, trust, imagination, creativity, empathy, subtlety.

The negative qualities of Pisces are: fear, escapism, self-delusion, self-denial, addiction, oversensitivity, impressionability, doubt, lack of boundaries, deception, “slippery”, controlling, unrealistic.

Pisces receives impressions from the environment like a sponge. Its desire is to return to Source and dissolve the ego identity - the ecstasy of union with the Whole. For some this openness and lack of boundaries can be overwhelming and results in escapist, addictive behaviour. If used positively it expresses itself through artistic creations or spiritual/devotional practices or service to others.

Aquarius

The symbol for Aquarius represents waves of energy, electricity, ideas. It is the symbol of the water carrier standing in the stream of life pouring out knowledge.

The purpose of Aquarius is futuristic. It is always looking to the future. Just as Leo makes us unique as individuals, Aquarius makes us unique as the human species.

The positive qualities of Aquarius are communicative, sociable, pioneering, original, clear-thinking, inventive, individualistic, unique, forward-looking, humanitarian, intellectual, visionary, independent.

The negative qualities of Aquarius are impersonal, unpredictable, detached, stubborn, eccentric, rebellious, erratic, remote, unrealistic, tactless, ruthless, extreme, dogmatic, aloof, inflexible.

Aquarius has a desire to be different from the status quo. Aquarius has a vision of how things could be and is often ahead of its time. Aquarius is an agent of social change.  The symbol for Capricorn represents the sea-goat with the body of a goat and the tail of the fish, enabling Capricorn to climb from the depths of the ocean to the heights of mountains. (Capricorn is marked by the summer solstice in the southern hemisphere (the winter solstice in the northern hemisphere) when the Sun moves over the Tropic of Capricorn.)

The purpose of Capricorn is to organise the survival of society; to organise resources in such a way to serve the greatest good of the community. Capricorn is the leader, the ultimate authority, the boss.

The positive qualities of Capricorn are: responsible, wise, mature, practical, patient, disciplined, pragmatic, organised, self-contained, efficient, consistent, dutiful, loyal, realistic, persevering, hard working, steadfast, traditional.

The negative qualities of Capricorn are: aloof, dogmatic, cautious, fearful, distrustful, vulnerable, tyrannical, conservative, ambitious, authoritarian, proud, pessimistic, judgmental, moralistic, rigid, controlling.

Capricorn needs to function with credibility in the world. They need respect. Criticism undermines their sense of self. Nothing is done without a purpose and it is important they master whatever they set out to do. When Capricorn becomes insecure or under stress they will become bombastic, rigid and full of their own importance, and insist upon doing things their own way because they know best.

Sagittarius

 The purpose of Sagittarius is to explore and gain knowledge and wisdom.

 The positive qualities of Sagittarius are expansive, enthusiastic, inspirational, generous, optimistic, jovial, visionary, independent, freedom-loving, philosophical, open, idealistic, good-natured.

 The negative qualities of Sagittarius are dogmatic, judgmental, evangelical, restless, tactless, coarse, bombastic, lacks subtlety, fanatical, intolerant, excessive, opinionated.

 The driving force for Sagittarius is to expanding their world view through growth and learning. Sagittarius needs to find meaning in life and see the ‘big picture’. The symbol for Scorpio represents the coils of a serpent (the constellation Ophiucus which lies below the ecliptic but the top of the constellation can be seen between Scorpio and Sagittarius).

The purpose of Scorpio is deep transformative change: birth, growth, death and rebirth.

The positive qualities of Scorpio are empathic, intuitive, perceptive, powerful, determined, resourceful, courageous, loyal, sympathetic, charismatic, healing.

The negative qualities of Scorpio are controlling, obsessive, resentful, vindictive, uncommunicative, rigid, suspicious, judgmental, jealous, unforgiving, secretive, defensive.

The driving force for Scorpio is to form intense, lasting bonds. Scorpio is about blood-ties, family and inheritance. Scorpio will perceive what is going on below the surface and want to get o the bottom of things. There is nothing superficial about Scorpio. Because of the intensity of the feeling nature of Scorpio they are very protective and private. Trust and betrayal are big issues for Scorpio.
